PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
This felid lives in the vast forests of conifers. To resist extreme winter temperatures, its fur is thicker and longer than that of the other tigers. It changes color according to the seasons and is cleared up the winter for better melting itself in snow.
An adult tiger can weigh up to 300 kg. It is able to embank a wild boar at a stretch hooks.
Not very active the day, it prefers to drive out as soon as the night fall.
The siberian tiger, like all the tiger, is a recluse. It occupies a vast territory measuring up to 100 km ˛ and does not accept the intruders, in particular of other males. It marks its field while urinating and by scratching the bark of the trees.
DISTRIBUTION
Their range was spread formerly in all is Siberian, north of Mongolia, of China and even in Korea. Today, in a wild state, one only finds them in forest, in a small portion of the Siberian east, in north east of China and Korea as in edge of sea of Japan. One counts currently approximately 400 specimens of them. In captivity, the number of individuals is appreciably the same one. One can find some in several zoo and reserves, in particular in Europe. There exists also a programme of reintegration to the wild life, located at the United States in the town of Omaha.
DIET
In spite of its force and the acuity of its directions, the siberian tiger must spend much time to hunting. Its attacks succeed only once on ten. It drives out primarily the deer tribe and wild boars, but can occasionally eat fish.
HUNTING
When it locates a prey, the siberian tiger approaches furtively to approximately 10 or 25 m its future meal before leaping to seize the animal with the nape of the neck, the posterior legs planted well on the ground.
The small preys are killed by a bite with the nape of the neck, but more, grosses are reversed on the ground and are choked by a bite with the throat.
The carcass is then trailed with cover, if possible close to a water supply point. The tiger* eats and drinks its contents before covering the remainders and going themselves from there to sleep. It returns later when the hunger tortures it again and drives out the vultures attracted by the odor.
