The Bat-eared Fox project was founded in June 2000 in Dortmund, in Germany, like a non-profit organization (Das Löffelhund-Projekt eV) for protection of the small carnivores, in particular the fox with ears of bat on the arable lands in Namibia. Since March 2003, the project has its base with the Nanania farm n°47 in the south of Namibia.
The principle of Bat-eared Fox project is the good mixture of scientific research and the protection of fauna. Their research provides them data on the behaviors and the living conditions of these canids and other small carnivores on the arable lands. But also allows them to better understand the influence of factors such as the poaching, the road which kills and the infections on the survival of these species. Bat-eared Fox project was launched without limitation in time and while hoping to become a permanent institution of Namibia.
