INTRODUCTION
Recovering to it quasi totality of the Balinese West from its 19 000 hectares of forest savage and of mangrove swamp, the national park of Bali Barat* is the ideal place for randonner and to discover the variety of fauna and the richness of the flora. It is besides in this exceptional nature that the last population of Bali starling, one of the rarest birds in the world, came to elect residence. Although the function first of the park is research and protection of nature, some footpaths are opened to the visitors.
PRESENTATION OF THE PARK
The national park of Bali western, in Indonesian Taman Nasional Bali Barat, east located in the north-west of the island of Bali, in Indonesia. Created in 1947, it extends on 190 km². In north, it is bordered by sand beaches, reefs and small islands (of which the island of Menjangan). The port of Gilimanuk is located west of park, and the village of Goris in the east. The park is accessible by the road since Gilimanuk and Singaraja, or by the ferry since Ketapang (Java).
The park understands several types of range: savanna, mangrove swamp, mountain, mixed forest of monsoon, coral small islands. The center is dominated by the volcanic vestiges of four mountains of the era pleistocene, with the Patas Mount which culminates to 1 412 m.
FAUNA
The park shelters 160 animal species, of which those : Banteng, Barn Swallow, Black-naped Oriole, Black racket-tailed Treepie, crested serpent eagle, oriental dollarbird, Hawksbill Turtle, Indian Muntjac, Java Sparrow, Javan Lutung, Large Flying Fox, Leopard Cat, Lesser Adjutant, long-tailed shrike, milky stork,, Pacific swallow, red-rumped swallow, Rusa Deer, Sacred Kingfisher, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Water monitor, wild boar, Yellow-vented Bulbul and the species more in danger Bali starling.
THE MARINE ANIMAL-LIFE PROTECTED
The national park of Bali Barat shows a biological diversity raised in a relatively small zone. In 1998, 110 coral species pertaining to 18 families were recorded, whose 22 species were of the family of coral mushroom (it ya only 29 coral mushroom species in the whole world recorded!), And there were at least 27 species Acropora coral found in a space of hardly 2 ha.
The marine reserve includes banks and the islands of the Cape-sanctuary which is a den for the birds of sea. The island is a popular place for the inhabitants and the tourists who wish to plunge to see a variety of fish and for exploration.
FLORA
The park also shelters species of flora such as : Pterospermum diversifolium, Antidesma bunius, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Steleochocarpus burahol, Santalum album, Aleurites moluccana, Sterculier fétide, Schleichera oleosa, Dipterocarpus hasseltii, Garcinia dulcis, Alstonia scholaris, Manilkara kauki, Dalbergia latifolia et Cassia fistula.
