The arctic fox is threatened of extinction in Sweden, Finland and everywhere else in Europe. It is a priority species according to the direction of l´habitat EC. Today one counts less than 150 individuals in Europe. Consequently a small variation of the demographic parameters or pure accidents could have a dramatic effect on the risk of extinction. The fox is a serious predator for the youthful ones and is with current hour increasing its domination beyond the line of the trees, occupying the burrows, thus excluding the arctic foxes their zones from reproduction. Swedish Arctic Fox Project one of the projects of protection and conservation of this is canid in its natural environment.
The actions of protection envisaged will stop the decline and will improve the chances for the species to be stabilized then to increase of number, with an increase in the reproduction in parallel of a reduction in mortality. An information campaign will facilitate the collaboration of the general public and will make it possible to understand the actions necessary to help the survival of the species "Fennoscandian Alopex lagopus".
